Publishing/ Unpublishing content
Your content will only be visible to the outside world once it is published. If you try and visit the URL of an unpublished page when you are not logged in it will give you a 404 error.
When you are creating a new page or editing an existing page you can choose to either save as draft or save as published. Choosing draft for a new page means the page will not yet be publicly available and only editors can see the page currently. Similarly, when making changes to an existing page that is already published it means that your changes will only be visible to editors. Until the page/ changes are set to published they won’t be visible.
Finally, to unpublish a published page, simply set it to unpublished and click save. This will remove the page from the public web. NOTE: Google crawls our website automatically and it may take some time for them to pick up a new page or remove an old page that is no longer available.
Important note: If you unpublish a page that is linked to from other place with a hard coded link (e.g. the link has been pasted into the body of another page or another website), unpublishing will cause a 'this page does not exist' error. Consider requesting a redirect to a different page if relevant. Requesting a redirect can be completed by logging a ticket on the service desk.
